The Ultimate Guide to a Stress-Free Move

Moving home can feel overwhelming, but a clear plan turns a busy day into a series of manageable steps. This moving checklist covers the essentials for a stress-free move in Greater Manchester.

Eight weeks before moving day

Start by confirming your moving date and requesting quotes from a reputable removals company. Compare what each house removal quote includes, including loading, transport, protection and unloading.

Declutter before you pack

Sort items into keep, donate, recycle and dispose piles. Fewer boxes mean a quicker move and lower transport costs. Arrange waste removal separately for anything that cannot travel with you.

Four weeks before moving day

Order strong boxes, tape and protective wrap. Label every box with its destination room and a short description of its contents. Keep documents, medication, chargers and valuables in a clearly marked essentials bag.

Plan furniture and access

Measure large furniture and check parking, lifts, stairs and narrow entrances at both addresses. Sharing these details early helps your Manchester moving company plan the right vehicle and equipment.

On moving day

Keep walkways clear and make sure children and pets have a safe place away from loading. Take meter readings, check cupboards and photograph the condition of valuable items before loading.

Use a room-by-room handover

Ask the removal team to place labelled boxes in their destination rooms. A final walk-through at the old property and a first essentials box at the new property will save time and stress.

After the move

Unpack the essentials first, then work through one room at a time. Update your address, register utilities and keep your removal paperwork until everything is safely accounted for.
